ItFR : 45%, and video screenshot

By E.C.Patterson

Has it been two weeks already since last post? Time sure flies by quickly. If it wasn’t for my fancy spreadsheet I could think that not much has been accomplished since then on Into the Forgotten Realms. But it proves me wrong: ItFR is now 45% complete. I’m excited about that since it means I was able to meet the target I recently set of 10% progress per month. The mod is nearing the top of the hill, and hopefully it’ll be a smooth and speedy run down to the finish line.

To celebrate this forthcoming 50th (percentile) anniversary, I’m planning to release a short teaser tailer. I’m gradually thinking up the storyboard and filming in-game footage. I like making videos, so this should be fun. Another fun part of mod making, which for me is not only about building a mod and uploading it to the Vault.

I’ve edited some early footage just for practice into the following 15 seconds clip, which I’ll call a video screenshot. It shows a part of the Cormanthor forest area and some ruins, which players will have to go through to reach Soloria, one of the abandoned schools of wizardry around Myth Drannor. Some of the shots in there will probably end up in the teaser.

Thanks for reading. I hope to be back sooner next time.

Although it was short, it was sure sweet! :D

That forest looks particularly nice, and those ruins add to a yearning mood of lost civilisation and depths of timeless sorrow. I cannot wait to see more video footage whenever that gets released! :)

Wow - that was looking like a professional trailer. The scenery is incredibly detailed and those ruins... 0.0

Well, I'm very happy to hear that Progress is going well - now finish up that awesome video! ;)

Now thats what I call a "teaser" - less may be more in some instances, but this is one that definately cries for more!

It's beautiful. I listen to the music you chose but I hope you found something that completes the feeling of nostalgy it gives when you look at those ruins.
Perfect for Myth Drannor.

Thanks everyone for your great comments! They certainly help to keep me going.

Indira: very nicely put, and exactly spot on. Thanks for stopping by!

Wyrin: I think it’s the lighting that contributes the most to that feeling, for me at least, including some subtle placed point lights (e.g. one lights the underside of the dome). I especially like the color of the sky.

Jclef: Part of the credit goes to Registerdbakel (forest prefab) and SGK73 (ground level ruins) for providing these great building blocks to play with. I plan to release the trailer in a month or so. Stay tuned!

LadyE: Thanks! I probably would not have gotten this far without your great support and friendship! :)

Dgraf: I know, it doesn’t show much. The full teaser trailer will be just the same, but longer (90 seconds or so). Can’t have too many spoilers in there!

Anonymous (I wish I knew who you were!): That’s high praise. I’m glad the feeling of Cormanthor and Myth Drannor passes through. The music is a snippet of the piece that will play during a (sort-of) “fly-over” cutscene when the player first enters the area. I’ve got another ambient area track planned for the area, one with some disembodied chorus in the background, something that could evoke the voices of elven spirits…

What a tease! LOL. You had set a wonderful mood with the visuals and music, but the video was cut too abruptly. It would be great to see the final version of this video. :)
